About the Role

A warm, thoughtful family in Menlo Park is seeking a full-time nanny to provide attentive, developmentally appropriate care for their daughter, who will be five months old at the start of the role.

This position is ideal for an experienced infant nanny who brings a calm, steady presence; takes pride in thoughtful routines and meticulous hygiene; and enjoys supporting a baby's early development through responsive care, floor play, reading, outdoor time, and everyday connection.

The family values reliability, punctuality, clear communication, and a collaborative working relationship. They are looking for someone who can confidently manage the baby's day while keeping parents informed of meaningful updates, questions, and milestones.

The position offers a stable Monday–Friday schedule with guaranteed hours and is best suited for someone seeking a long-term role with a respectful, involved family.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Guaranteed hours — a stable, dependable weekly schedule.
  • One or both parents may occasionally work from home; the nanny should be comfortable taking ownership of the baby's routine while staying warm, professional, and collaborative with parents.
  • Optional additional hours are available roughly every other Friday evening, 5:00 PM–8:00 PM. These are nice-to-haves rather than requirements and can be arranged around the nanny's availability.

A Typical Day

Each day begins with a brief handoff with the parents to discuss the baby's night, sleep, feeding, mood, and any priorities for the day. The nanny keeps a simple, reliable log of feedings, diaper changes, naps, and meaningful milestones so handoffs between caregivers stay smooth.

The nanny supports the baby through her daily routine, including:

  • Feeding, bottle preparation, and bottle washing and sterilization.
  • Diapering and clothing changes.
  • Nap routines and age-appropriate sleep support.
  • Tummy time, floor play, reading, songs, sensory exploration, and movement-based play.
  • Developmentally appropriate activities that support rolling, crawling, movement, curiosity, and early learning.
  • Outdoor walks, stroller time, and nearby parks when weather conditions allow.
  • A calm afternoon routine and a smooth transition into the evening.

As the baby's routines develop, the nanny may occasionally support bathing or pre-nap hygiene routines, following the family's preferred safety practices and onboarding guidance.

Main Responsibilities

Infant Care & Development

  • Provide warm, attentive, safety-focused care throughout the day.
  • Follow and support the baby's feeding, sleep, and developmental routines.
  • Create engaging, age-appropriate play, including tummy time, books, songs, sensory play, and movement-based activities.
  • Encourage healthy development through floor time, exploration, responsive interaction, and outdoor time.
  • Watch for and communicate meaningful milestones, changes in behavior, developmental progress, or concerns.
  • Support upcoming transitions, including the introduction of solids, changing nap routines, early mobility, and separation anxiety.
  • Soothe, co-regulate, and gently guide the baby through naps, feedings, diaper changes, and separations from parents.
  • Use calm, respectful redirection and consistent routines as the baby grows.

Child-Related Household Support

The baby's safety, supervision, and developmental needs always come first. Child-related tasks are completed during naps, quiet periods, or whenever the baby's needs allow.

  • Washing, sterilizing, and organizing bottles and feeding supplies.
  • Preparing formula and maintaining clean, organized feeding areas.
  • Following careful hygiene and food-safety practices during bottle and food preparation.
  • Baby laundry, folding, and organization.
  • Keeping the nursery, play areas, and commonly used baby spaces tidy.
  • Cleaning up after feedings, spit-up, diaper changes, and daily play.
  • Putting away toys and keeping the family dog away from baby toys and items by closing the toy room door.
  • Preparing simple infant food as the baby begins solids.

Care Style & Communication

The family is looking for a nanny who is calm, steady, thoughtful, and collaborative. The ideal nanny will be:

  • Exceptionally reliable and punctual.
  • Detail-oriented and conscientious.
  • A clear, proactive communicator.
  • Warm, patient, empathetic, and attuned.
  • Calm and confident during difficult moments.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback in the moment and communicating openly.
  • Able to work independently while remaining collaborative with parents.
  • Comfortable sharing daily updates, observations, questions, and milestones.
  • Respectful of the family's routines, preferences, and home environment.

The family values responsive, emotionally attuned caregiving. As the baby grows, the nanny should rely on calm, respectful guidance and predictable routines rather than punitive discipline.

Engagement & Phone Expectations

This role requires a nanny who is fully present and engaged throughout the day. Personal phone use should be extremely limited during working hours and should not occur while actively supervising, feeding, playing with, walking with, or otherwise caring for the baby. Phones may be used for family communication, safety, logistics, navigation, emergencies, and appropriate updates.

During naps, the nanny should prioritize child-related responsibilities such as bottle washing, laundry, tidying the baby's spaces, and formula preparation.

Ideal Candidate

  • Intermediate or stronger infant-care experience, ideally with children from infancy through toddlerhood.
  • A strong understanding of infant safety, feeding, sleep routines, developmental milestones, and responsive caregiving.
  • Comfort supporting babies through transitions such as solids, mobility, separation anxiety, and changing sleep needs.
  • Excellent hygiene practices, especially around bottle preparation, feeding supplies, kitchen surfaces, and baby items.
  • A meticulous, detail-oriented approach to safety and household routines.
  • Comfort with basic infant food preparation as the baby begins solids.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort maintaining simple written or digital care updates.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, ideally including in-person practical training, or willingness to complete an in-person course promptly.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the family's home.
  • Comfort working in a home with a friendly Labrador.
  • Non-smoking and non-vaping.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $38–$42 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Guaranteed hours.
  • W-2 household employment.
  • Two weeks paid vacation.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Paid sick leave in accordance with California requirements.
  • Paid family vacations when the nanny is not needed to travel.
  • A stable, respectful, communicative family environment.
  • The opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with one child during an important developmental stage.

This Role Is a Great Fit for Someone Who…

  • Loves the infant stage and enjoys supporting early development.
  • Is calm, warm, and naturally nurturing.
  • Is exceptionally punctual, dependable, and organized.
  • Takes pride in cleanliness, food safety, and careful attention to detail.
  • Enjoys tummy time, reading, songs, stroller walks, outdoor time, and infant-led play.
  • Likes working collaboratively with thoughtful parents.
  • Is comfortable sharing observations, updates, and questions.
  • Can follow routines while adapting thoughtfully as the baby's needs change.
  • Wants a stable, full-time role with a family who values professionalism, communication, and long-term fit.
