About the Family

A warm, thoughtful family in San Francisco's Rincon Hill neighborhood is seeking an experienced full-time live-in nanny for their 17-month-old son. They are looking for someone highly reliable, developmentally engaged, and caring — with the confidence to hold a full-day routine independently.

Their son is social, curious, and loves exploring. The family wants a nanny who creates a nurturing environment while actively supporting his development through outdoor time, indoor activities, reading, narration, social exposure, and age-appropriate independence-building.

The family values a true nanny-parent partnership. They would love someone experienced enough to bring thoughtful observations, notice what their son is ready for next — potty training, feeding independence, communication milestones — and proactively raise those conversations.

This is a live-in role for a nanny who enjoys becoming a trusted, consistent part of a family's daily rhythm while maintaining a clearly defined work schedule and off-duty time.

Live-In Arrangement

  • Lodging provided as part of the role.
  • Defined Monday–Friday work schedule with off-duty time outside working hours.
  • The family is looking for someone who understands the balance of being a trusted household presence while maintaining professionalism, healthy boundaries, and clear communication.
  • Room details, household setup, and live-in expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–7:30 PM
  • 60 guaranteed hours per week
  • The child's day begins around 7:30 AM and winds down around 7:30 PM

Typical Responsibilities

Childcare

  • Provide attentive, safety-focused care for a 17-month-old toddler.
  • Support the full daily routine: meals, snacks, milk, nap, diapering, outdoor play, indoor activities, bath support, reading, and evening wind-down.
  • Maintain consistency around sleep, feeding, transitions, and emotional regulation.
  • Support upcoming milestones: early potty training readiness, communication, and age-appropriate independence.

Development & Engagement

  • Create a thoughtful balance of outdoor play, indoor activities, reading, music, movement, and practical life skills.
  • Engage through clear communication, narration, facial expression, and responsive interaction.
  • Support language development through frequent conversation, reading, and play.
  • Encourage social exposure through parks, outings, playdates, classes, and libraries.
  • Plan activities that support fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, and communication development.
  • Montessori or Montessori-inspired experience is a strong plus, but not required.

Meals & Feeding

  • Prepare nutritious vegetarian/eggetarian toddler meals and snacks.
  • Attention to balanced nutrition and protein at each meal.
  • Support feeding independence in a gentle, age-appropriate way.

Child-Related Household Tasks

  • Child's laundry.
  • Washing and organizing the child's dishes, cups, and meal items.
  • Tidying toys, play areas, and child-related spaces.
  • Light cleanup after meals and activities.
  • Keeping the child's environment clean, organized, and hygienic.
  • This is not a general housekeeping role — the focus is excellent toddler care.

Ideal Candidate

Best suited for an experienced, reliable nanny who is comfortable in a live-in role and deeply engaged with toddler development.

  • Highly reliable and consistent — both parents have demanding schedules and dependability is essential.
  • Comfortable in a live-in role — warm and trusted presence while maintaining professionalism and clear off-duty boundaries.
  • Fluent in English with strong communication skills with both children and parents.
  • Developmentally thoughtful — you understand toddler development and create meaningful daily experiences.
  • Proactive and observant — you notice patterns, milestones, and readiness signs and can speak to them.
  • Warm, patient, and attuned — you respond to toddler emotions with kindness, steadiness, and clear limits.
  • Comfortable with a neuro-affirming, respectful approach — calm and consistent, not permissive or harsh.
  • Hygienic and safety-conscious around diapering, food prep, handwashing, and illness prevention.
  • Engaging and expressive — their son is social and highly responsive to tone, expression, and interaction.

Experience & Requirements

  • Strong toddler experience required — 5+ years preferred.
  • Fluent English required.
  • Comfort preparing nutritious vegetarian/eggetarian toddler meals.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Clean driving record preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Able to pass a background check.
  • Non-smoker, no vaping.
  • Comfortable with a no-screen approach during working hours.
  • Prior live-in nanny experience preferred, but not required for the right candidate.

Nice to Have

  • Driving strongly preferred (family car may be available for child outings).
  • Experience with Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio, or other developmental frameworks.
  • Experience supporting toddler feeding independence.
  • Experience with potty training readiness.

Home Environment

  • Rincon Hill neighborhood, within walking distance of Salesforce Park.
  • Easy access to parks, outdoor spaces, and city outings.
  • No pets in the home.
  • Vegetarian household — no meat preparation.
  • Both parents work outside the home most weekdays; Dad may occasionally work from home.
  • Lodging provided as part of the live-in arrangement.
  • Family may move within the SF area in the future — candidates open to flexibility preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $32–$37/hour depending on experience and fit.
  • 60 guaranteed hours per week.
  • Lodging provided.
  • Paid time off (structure to be finalized with family).

  • Paid holidays.
  • Mileage reimbursement for child-related outings in the nanny's own car.
  • Family-provided vehicle may be available for child-related driving.
